CodeRED Emergency Notification System to be tested

~Sidney Hill, Sandoval County

The CodeRED, Emergency Notification System that serves most of Sandoval County including the City of Rio Rancho, the Town of Bernalillo, and the Village of Corrales will be tested during the week of September 4 to September 8, 2017.

The purpose of the test is to validate telephone numbers in the database. During the last countywide call out, emergency management officials noticed several numbers that were not connected.

Those numbers that connected will not be tested, only those that officials could not reach. There is no need for action if you receive the call, emergency personnel are merely testing the system to ensure it is operational as needed, and to encourage additional residents to enroll to receive future notifications.

The Caller ID will read 800-791-3749 and the message will say, “This is a test of your community’s CodeRED Emergency Notification System. No action is required, this is only a test. Had this been an actual emergency you would have received important information from local officials. Again, this is only a test.”

The process will increase the efficiency of the system and the speed in which notifications will be delivered when the system is used during an actual emergency.

"Residents and businesses are encouraged to visit the county’s website (www.sandovalcountynm.gov) to update their contact information.

If your phone number is not in the database, you will not receive a call when we issue an important notification," said David Bervin, Sandoval County’s assistant fire chief and emergency manager.

He said it’s particularly important for the following people to update their numbers:

  • Anyone with an unlisted phone number
  • Anyone who has changed their phone number or address within the past year
  • Anyone with a cellular phone or VoIP phone as their primary number

The CodeRED system allows officials to better protect life and property by reaching residents and personnel via telephone calls, text messages, emails and social media posts.

Chief Bervin urges citizens to visit the County website, www.sandovalcountynm.gov and click on the CodeRED logo. Questions regarding this system test should be directed to Sandoval Emergency Operations Center, 505-867-7625.
