Placitas Artists Visual Arts Exhibits Opens 37th Season

Posted

Placitas Artists Series has been presenting art exhibits and concerts for 37 years. The exhibits and concerts are held in Las Placitas Presbyterian Church on Highway 165 in the village of Placitas. The art exhibits are displayed in the fellowship hall, which is museum-sized with natural and track lighting.

The Placitas Artists Series is an organization dedicated to both music AND the visual arts. The juried art shows, consisting of at least four artists, are month-long exhibitions from September through May, Tuesday-Friday, 9:30am to 12:30pm, or by appointment (Contact Lee Small at leesmall1000@gmail.com). Prior to each monthly concert, a free art reception is held from 2-3 pm with refreshments. The concert follows at 3pm. Concert tickets are sold online and at the door. At the first concert of the 37th Season on September 24, the art exhibit will honor Dianna Shomaker, one of the pillars of Placitas Artists Series, with a one-woman show. She is the Placitas Artists Series “Treasured and Feature Artist” for the 2023-2024 concert season. She has graciously contributed a painting, valued at $2000, which will be raffled at the December concert (http://www.diannashomaker.com).

For a Sunday jaunt for art lovers, drive up Route 165 stopping at the exhibits at Wild Hearts Gallery, (https://www.wildheartsgallery-nm.com) and the Placitas Community Library, and end up at the Placitas Artists Series exhibit at the church at 2pm. At 3pm. American pianist, Jon Nakamatsu, is the 2023-24 season opener. Placitas is well known for its fantastic scenery and wild horses as well as music and ART in the Foothills!
