Practical Move Removed from Derby

Posted

Sometimes news breaks so fast, it's old news  by the time you read it in the newspaper.

Such was the case involving "The Fastest Two-Minutes in Sports," the Kentucky Derby.

This week's editor of the Sandoval Signpost  includes a story on locally owned race horse Practical Move, who was considered a legitimate contender in this year's Derby, listed at 10-1 odds earlier this week.

But, alas, minutes after the Signpost went to print it was announced that the horse, co-owned by Albuquerque residents Pierre and Leslie Amestoy, had been scratched.

Practical Move was one of four horses scratched after starting post positions were announced on Wednesday. Practical Move and another horse were taken out the race because of "elevated" temperatures. Another was pulled over concerns about its trainer and a fourth horse was deemed to be unfit to compete.

Amestoy is the developer of the  Los Diamantes mixed use development in Rio Rancho.
