Christopher Bagley is on the verge of climbing to the top rank at Sandoval County Fire and Rescue, the department he started his career with in 2005.

County commissioners Wednesday are set to promote Bagley from deputy chief to fire chief, following the recommendation of a selection committee.

According to the agenda, the members of the committee — County Manager Wayne Johnson, County Attorney Michael Eshleman and Bernalillo County Fire Chief Greg Perez — find Bagley more than qualified to take over the duties of the fire chief.

Bagley started out as a firefighter/paramedic, later holding the positions of lieutenant, battalion chief and deputy chief. In addition, he worked as a part-time instructor at Central New Mexico Community College.

The previous chief, Eric Masterson, was promoted to Deputy County Manager in April.

Also on the agenda are three agreements with the New Mexico Department of Transportation that will lead to just over $600,000 in state aid for road projects. The county will be responsible for a match of $200,852.

Commissioners will also consider a land purchase tied to a potential economic development project.

Other approvals up for consideration include a $250,000 professional services agreement with the Sandoval Economic Alliance. This would be the the third renewal of a contract first awarded in 2022, under which the organization provides employer development and economic development services to the county.

Esparza Advertising scored highest among five respondents to a request for proposals for tourism advertising, marketing, promotions, and public relations services. Commissioners are going to choose whether to award the firm the $49,995 annual contract.
