State Rep. Alan Martinez and New Mexico Department of Transportation Secretary Ricky Serna will host a public town hall Friday to reveal the results of a traffic study along the NM-528 corridor.
The meeting is scheduled for 6 p.m. at the Church of the Incarnation, 2309 Monterrey Rd. NE.
The study follows a series of fatal accidents on the highway, including a 2024 crash near the Rivers Edge 2 neighborhood that killed two residents. Following a town hall last summer, NMDOT committed to evaluating the stretch of road between Pasilla Road and Rivers Edge—a corridor Martinez has called “dangerous.”
In December, Martinez pressed NMDOT to release the findings immediately, noting that preliminary results had been ready since October but were held for engineering review. Residents have previously called for infrastructure changes, such as new traffic signals or speed cameras, to curb speeding and improve safety at the Pasilla Road intersection.
Friday’s forum will allow community members to discuss the findings with NMDOT leadership and staff. Martinez, a Rio Rancho Republican, represents District 23 in Sandoval County.
