Sandoval County’s animal shelter is $9,500 richer after earning recognition for its holiday adoption efforts — money that will go directly toward getting more pets ready for their forever homes.

The county’s Animal Care Services received an $8,500 award from the Helen Woodward/Blue Buffalo Home 4 the Holidays Initiative, which recognizes shelters that boost adoption activities between October and December, the county announced March 27. This needs more.

An additional $1,000 came from volunteer Jessica Clark, who donated prize money she won through the program’s “I Chose to Rescue” social media contest.

All funds go to the shelter’s medical fund, covering spay/neuter procedures, vaccinations and emergency care for injured animals.

“We were very happy to receive this award as it recognizes the dedication of our staff and volunteer team,” said Kimberly Jaramillo, assistant director of Animal Care Services.
