Bernalillo Town Councilors will finalize a list of capital priorities Monday.

There are 21 projects on the list, which identifies major purchases and construction in the town plans for fiscal years 2027 to 2031.

The list, known as the infrastructure capital improvement plan (ICIP), includes new police and fire stations, water and wastewater system improvements, library upgrades, replacement of the town’s swimming pool and rehabilitation of the Molino Building.

The total cost of all the items on the list is $87.9 million; the town has already collected $9.4 million. The remainder is expected to be placed in future budgets, starting with $39.2 million in fiscal 2027. The next year would see $32 million go toward the projects.

Of the money already gathered, $8 million is dedicated to the fire station. That project includes design, remodeling and new construction, along with furnishing and equipping the station. Multiple apparatus/vehicle bays, living quarters and all-purpose rooms are included.

Under current plans, the last $2 million for the fire station would be placed in the fiscal year 2027 budget.

The $10 million police station would be funded over the next three fiscal years.

The New Mexico Department of Finance and Administration requires each of the state’s local governments to submit an annual ICIP.

Lawmakers use those plans to decide which local projects they will support in the state’s capital outlay bill each year.

Also on the agenda is consideration of awarding $112,500 in lodger’s tax grants for events taking place this summer and fall.

Those include the Mountain West Fall Fest, Enchantment Games and Sandoval County Sheriff Posse Rodeo. The grants will also be used for tourism promotion and maintenance of the pavilion at Rotary Park.

Human resources director Maria Santillan will ask the council to approve the hires of a police officer and two park maintenance workers.
