A resort nestled along the Rio Grande between Albuquerque and Santa Fe is turning its kitchen gardens into community resources, donating more than 3,000 pounds of food last year to an Albuquerque homeless shelter.
Hyatt Regency Tamaya Resort & Spa, located on the Santa Ana Pueblo, highlighted its sustainability programs Wednesday in recognition of Earth Day.
The resort grows 30 varieties of herbs and vegetables, tends an orchard of apple, plum, cherry and peach trees, and maintains six beehives that produced four gallons of honey in 2024. Surplus food goes monthly to The Rock, an Albuquerque shelter, according to a resort press release.
“Through our ongoing food donation program, we provide thousands of pounds of food each year to The Rock,” said Executive Chef Nate Larsen.
A closed-loop composting system returns food waste to the gardens as soil.
