Rio Rancho gets a taste of Ireland and Scotland this month when the Celtic Coyotes headline a benefit concert for Storehouse West, the city’s food donation center that feeds more than 1,500 people every month.

The band plays Aug. 29 from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Unitarian Universalist Westside Congregation, 1650 Abrazo Rd. NE. Admission is $10 at the door, with all proceeds going to Storehouse West.

The concert also marks UUWC’s 30th anniversary, an occasion the congregation wanted tied to its longtime support for the food pantry.

“The opportunity to include the concert as part of the celebration and raise funds for Storehouse West is perfect,” said Nika Quirk, who heads the anniversary planning team.

More details:

  • The Celtic Coyotes have played traditional and original Celtic music in New Mexico for more than 20 years.
  • Band members: Doug Cowan (whistles, Irish flute, concertina, pipes), Steve Miller (guitar, bass ukulele, vocals) and Sharon Stepler (fiddle, guitar, mandolin, tenor banjo, vocals).
  • The trio performs annually at the Rio Grande Valley Celtic Festival and has appeared at La Vida Llena, the Irish American Society of New Mexico and Black Mesa Winery’s Pick-n-Stomp.
