Rural water systems serving some of Sandoval County’s smallest communities took home four awards at the 48th Annual New Mexico Rural Water Association Conference earlier this month — including the top prize for drinking water taste in the state.

The Sile Mutual Domestic Water & Sewer Association earned Small Water System of the Year, the Jemez Springs Domestic Water Association won Medium Water System of the Year, and Peña Blanca Mutual Domestic Water Consumers and Mutual Sewage Works claimed Best Tasting Drinking Water in New Mexico.

Sandoval County District 5 Commissioner Joshua Jones received Elected Official of the Year. The Pueblo of Jemez Public Works Department placed second in the drinking water taste contest.

The conference ran April 14–16 at the Isleta Resort and Casino in Albuquerque, according to a Sandoval County press release.
