A man carrying a knife threatened a Rio Rancho High School employee Monday morning before leaving the campus, prompting a lockout while officers swept the area, according to the Rio Rancho Police Department.
Officers responded to a report of a disorderly subject at approximately 8:25 a.m., RRPD said. The school was placed on lockout to keep the man from entering any buildings while officers responded. Principal Millan Baca told families the individual had no contact with students and that classroom instruction continued as normal throughout.
Investigators determined no crime occurred, RRPD said, though the man was verbally aggressive with staff. The lockout was lifted once officers determined it was safe for students and staff. Baca thanked police for their response and said officers would maintain a more visible presence on campus “to ensure a return to normalcy.”
Baca also reminded families that making threats against a school community violates state law, though RRPD’s investigation did not result in charges.
